HI,

I'm looking at adding the minidlna plugin, but I don't seem to have the plugins tab.

Any help please?

Wayne.

On the Services page, did you install the plugin jail yet? You have to do that first before installing any plugins. It's in the docs.

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately, I'm still none the wiser.
The docs refer me to 'Download the plugins_jail PBI located in the plugins folder for your architecture from 8.3.0 SourceForge page'
I can't find where the plugins_jail is on that page. It only shows me the freenas download.

Sorry, but still none the wiser.

I've downloaded this file. FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-x86.Plugins_Jail.pbi.

Now what do I do? I still have no plugins tab under services.

hello,

i have just started to look at different nas os for my first nas, i have the hardware in place and ive just installed FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-x64 (r12701M) and is currently running on a flash drive. firstly ive configured all the services i require and then moved onto additional applications\pluggins, i have read many sites to configure pluggins and i beleive i have the jail setup correctly, when i attempt to install any pluggin everything completes as it should but they are not visible on the left hand console tree and the service start action fails with "some error occourd" very helpful error  , ive search and found this post but there is no mention of a fix or work arround. is there anything we can do?? dnla is the main reason im moving to NAS as it all in one place.

thanks

Andy

lazy? i have looked at this site again, i have alreay installed the Jail and pluggins, the issue i am having is that the GUI isnt showing the config page when pluggins is expanded. i cant configue the pluggins if they are not shown in the GUI, the Pluggins service is started but the pluggins themselves cant't be started as i cant configure what isnt there.

I am not talking to you, stop hijacking threads! Your issue has nothing to do with this one.

Please hijack it, if it's going to help me.

I have read through the page a number of times, but still don't get it. I'm no expert and mostly need step by step instructions - yes I'm an idiot. Most of the stuff on the page doesn't make much sense to me, but in saying that it seems something is missing in the instruction or it's assumed the reader knows more than I do.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate those who develop software like FreeNAS that I can use for free. I'm amazed that I got it to work at all. I just wish I new a bit more about how it all works.

More than likely, if it isn't a bug, its your lack of understanding. FreeBSD seems to have a pretty steep learning curve if you've never used it before. I hate telling people to RTFM, but in this case you may have to. I praise the manual regularly as I think it is very well written, it also leaves alot of stuff up to the admin to have knowledge in. This is partially by design, as well as how FreeBSD is built. FreeBSD will let you do things that are completely idiotic if you don't know what you are doing. The expectation is that you really do know what stuff does before you tinker.

Lots of people have been in this forum with lost data because they made a zpool with drives in a RAIDZ2, then added 1 more disk thinking they could expand the VDev. VDevs don't expand, and when that 1 disk fails they lose the whole pool and have a dumbfounded look on their face. That's partly why I created the guide for noobies. My heart sinks a little when I see someone start a thread with "So did I just lose 10TB of data?"

Anyway, back to your issue. Can you post a screenshot of what you see when you expand the plugins?
