Hey Guys,

My QNAP is no longer meeting my requirements so I'm going to build a new server. The issues I have is that I have some part laying around that support different generations of hardware so I'm looking for some input. I want quality gear without breaking the bank. Hence why I'm trying to reuse as much as possible.

I'll be used for media storage, NBZGET Docker and Sonar Docker. Plex is front end is running on another box and VMs (Compute and Storage) are handled on other cluster.

What I have
- Mellanox ConnectX-3 SPF+ (I have a 10 gig switching network)
- 4 x 8GB DDR4 :: 2Rx8 PC4-2133P-RE0-10 ECC HP Branded
- 1 x 16GB kth-pl421/16G :: 2Rx4 PC4-2133P-RE0-11 Kingston
- Intel G3250
- 4 x 32GB kth-pl421/36G :: 2Rx4 PC4-2133P-RB1-11 Kingston
- Lots of SSD and HDDs... No worries on this end.
- LSI 9205-8i

What I'm going to purchase:
- Supermicro SC846BE16-R920B :: Comes with SQ power supply and SAS2 backplane

One of the pain points is should I buy a motherboard to reuse my CPU or my the memory. Either way I desire at least 3 PCIE ports and IPMI.

Any help would will appreciated and promise to post pics of the build. I want to know this out asap.

A new pentium class CPU Costs what? $60?

Where as how much does 32GB of RAM cost?

If you're buying a motherboard don't buy an obselete one.

I already have DDR4 Ram. I guess I'll just get a X11 MB and a CPU that will work with it. I don't plan on running much on the system. What's a good low end CPU to go with the build?

I was able to get a Supermicro X10SLM+-F for $80 off eBay. I can use my pentium CPU with it and a friend is donating some HP branded DDR3 ECC ram (Hopefully I'll work).

Hopefully everything comes in by this weekend and I can get started.
