The drive came out with no problems - will keep the case - i will need it for the warranty. The My Book has a 3 year warranty.

The drive inside is WD80EZAZ (US7SAL080) which is HGST Ultrastar HE10 (8 tb) - only problem is it is 7200 rpm (philips pointed out it is actually 5400 rpm) which makes it 4 degrees Celsius hotter than my other drives.
I needed to use a molex to sata adapter to get the drive to start.

badblocks took 30 hours per pass - nearly 121 hours in total

Are you sure that is a 7200 rpm drive? Everywhere I look it seems to be a 5400. I have a couple WD80EZZX (HGST He8-8 5400) units and they run warm as well (mid to upper 30s, occasional low 40s during scrub) - but they are in a case with crappy airflow too and I don't have any other drives in there to compare them too, so this is completely anecdotal.

When running in the My Book case, they ran well over 50C though, so if you think about it, I think I rescued them.

says on top of page 15 - 7200-rpm

i can confirm that i hit 51 degrees Celsius in the external case - i stopped that and put it in FreeNAS - now 34 degrees Celsius
