Hello all. I am rather novice to the NAS community.

I have made a couple of machines from retired enterprise servers. One of these will store music and video. I wish to make these datasets OPEN and FREELY ACCESSIBLE to my entire network without login, because a couple of our media boxes are a PAIN to enter login creds using the remote controls.

Is this even possible at all?

I don't believe so - you should try "allow guest access" on the SMB Share creation page but I don't think it does what you want.

If it doesn't, I'd suggest making the share content owned by user 'a' and the password 'a' or some such.

Thanks for the suggestion, JamieV. It may just come down to that after all. Then again, if I just build a "Media PC" and connect it to the TV this wouldn't even be a discussion in the first place.
Hmmm. PC gaming in the living room!!! OK, Wheels are turning.

If anyone else has a helpful suggestion for this, please let me know!!
