Hi,

I want to run VM machine on my FreeNAS box

I have

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz

16GB of ram.

All I want from this VM is DNS server.

I use this tutorial watch

But when I try to power up VM I always get State: STOPPED.

Is problem in my old CPU or could be something else?

Hi,

I am running FreeNAS-11.1-U6.3

Since EPT and UG features are shown, CPU is fine.

[root@freenas ~]# grep VT-x /var/run/dmesg.boot
VT-x: (disabled in BIOS) PAT,HLT,MTF,PAUSE,EPT,UG,VPID

About start on boot box, I am not sure where this is. If you mean "Autostart" check box in VM settings, then yes it is checked.

When I press start I even get green message on top of the screen "VM Started“

Is there any log files available?

Anything in /var/log/messages when it fails to start? Also, which OS is installed into the VM?

Hi,

When I try to start VM in log file doesn't appear any new messages.

OS in VM is ubuntu-18.04.1.0-live-server-amd64.

Should this maybe be problem with permissions? I mention permissions because I am greenhorn in FreeNAS and have lots of problems with them :)

When I see yours post, I was like 100% this is it.

I enable VT-x in BIOS

Now output shows

[root@freenas ~]# grep VT-x /var/run/dmesg.boot
VT-x: PAT,HLT,MTF,PAUSE,EPT,UG,VPID

But VM still Won't start. :(

also no log messages. I am lost.

UPDATE:

Just destroyed old VM and create new one.

Now VM starts, and I am able to connect to it via VNC, but still get some errors.

Hi everyone, I apologize if I reopen an old thread but I have an equal problem, my vm does not start remains in boot efi.
I also tried to manually select in the boot file, but I'm not successful.
Installed version Freenas 11.3 U2
operating system to be installed on Windows 7

cmd--> grep output VT-x /var/run/dmesg.boot
"VT-x: PAT, HLT, MTF, PAUSE, EPT, UG, VPID"
