vfs.zfs.arc_max still suggested / required in 11.3?

I am using vfs.zfs.arc_max to make sure my Ubuntu VM has enough mem to start up. It uses 1GiB, I have 32, so arc_max is set to 28GB.

My question is: Is using vfs.zfs.arc_max to make sure VMs have sufficient memory still recommended? Or is it just as well to leave it be, and have FreeBSD evict content from ARC on VM start if necessary?

This is more an idle question. I like stable systems; I also like simple setups. So when I am advising people, should I suggest to set vfs.zfs.arc_max if they are about to run VMs, or do I consider that a very, very optional thing to do?
