Hi. I am new here. I have been looking for a solution to a server issue and I was pointed in this direction.

I currently have 2 servers, both running Windows Server 2012. 1 is a DC and file server, and the second is a server running the application for the users in the office.

I am replacing the second server with a new server - much stronger, etc.

I dont really have a need for the server I am getting rid of, so I thought of looking into combining it with the first server, the file server/DC and span the disks together to make the network shared disk much larger.

Can FreeNAS help me do this? span one disk over the hard disks of 2 windows servers?

Thanks

Nope. FreeNAS is a single node of storage, by itself.

What you may want to look into within Windows is DFS and also maybe Windows 2012's storage virtualisation.

Either of those could then use a FreeNAS server (or of course a Windows server!) as one of the backing shares of the distributed/replicated network share system.
