I have setup my FreeNAS server as a domain controller and it is working really well. The issue I have uncovered is that I have a couple of accounts that I want to set a blank password on. The Windows admin tools don't return any errors when setting a blank password, but the account cannot authenticate to windows without a password set.

This may be deliberate, but then I would expect the password setting operation would fail.

Thanks
FreeNAS-9.2.1.2-RELEASE-x64

If I'm not mistaken this is a limitation of Windows and not FreeNAS.

I checked for a bug report on this and I was not able to find anything. Did this ever get submitted, or resolved? I need to have a few AD accounts without passwords for automated machines and this is the only thing holding me back.

If I understand what you are saying, there is nothing broken. This is proper security settings for Samba. It rejects usernames without a password unless they are a guest account. There is a samba parameter you can add to the CIFS advanced settings to allow it, but you'd have to look through the Samba documentation to find it. I don't know it off the top of my head and I would *never* recommend this be standard practice for any business. It's a gaping security risk that is unacceptable for even basic network security.
