usb to sata convertor with SSD

Hi

I've read many posts that usb disk are not reliable to boot freenas from (even with a mirror).

Would using usb-sata convertors to small sata drive's solve this?

Yes, it solves the issue.
USB disks are not resistant to repeating writing. SSD, even the lower-end models are much better for that.

To boot my FreeNAS server, I use a Kingston A400 120GB SSD + Sabrent USB3-to-Sata3 adapter
You can also use a laptop spinning disk with a USB-SATA adapter, but it takes more time to boot.
