I think my usb key is failing because I am getting odd errors at bootup that are preventing the system from fully booding. I don't recall saving my settings (I know a bad mistake). Geven that the system will not fully boot, am I stuck rebulding the system from scratch?

any help is appreciated

You might be able to recover your database if you mount your USB stick on a FreeBSD or linux machine(at least I think linux will work). The database is located at /database/freenas-v1.db. If your database is corrupted or you can't get access to it then your only other option is to rebuild your settings from scratch.

Your zpools and ufs drives will still have your data and just need to be mounted according to the directions in the manual.

Not sure. Depends on your flavor of linux and what packages are installed.

Found this after a quick google search: http://ufs-linux.sourceforge.net/ It's old, but should give you a starting point. I suggest 'man mount' in whatever your system of choice is to get more up to date information.
