Hi,

I installed freenas on a bootable usb key. Everything worked fine until the usb key seems to be unreadable/corrupted. I might have to format this usb key in order to reinstall freenas on it. What about my freenas configuration (user, permissions, etc...)? Is this configuration stored on the usb key or on the harddisks used for storage?

Thx William.

So if I format my USB Key, I will loose all my configs?

How does it work when you boot freenas on a live CD, the config cannot be stored on the CD...

Regards.

The configs are stored on the USB key. The system allows you to download a copy but it is easy to forget; some of us use scripts to keep an archive of configurations.

There are no live CD's of FreeNAS that I know of. If you format your USB key, you will lose the configuration. If you boot FreeNAS from a different USB key, and then mount the old one, there is a good possibility of recovering the old configuration.
