Hi All,

I have a question that doesn't seem to be answered in the FAQ or documentation.

I have an existing Server running Windows Server 2008R2 x64 and i'm looking at changing the OS to FreeNAS. My issue is that i'm concerned that my existing drives (a 4TB and 4 2TBs) will need to be repartitioned or formatted and I will loose my existing data.

Also, I couldn't see if FreeNAS will support 4TB drives.

Thanks much

If you want to use zfs on those drives you will be wiping them. Yes freenas should have no problem with the 4tb

Thanks for the response.

I'm not interested in Raid at all.

I guess the question i should be asking is, if I put FreeNAS on a thumbdrive, and boot it up, will it be able to serve the existing NTFS drives to my network.

ntfs isnt really recommended for long term use in FreeNAS environment. if you want to keep using NTFS, you should just stick with windows until you can do a proper migration. FreeNAS really wont give you any more than you have now, aside from bigger headaches dealing with your NTFS stuff
