Hi people!

Im in a plan to upgrade My server (My server specs are in My signature).

Reason to the upgrade is that i have 10 users streaming via plex and most of them is transcoding so i think i need a better CPU and maybe more RAM?

What kind of CPU should i buy for my MB? And IF i need a new CPU can i buy it from eBay or amazon, or should be a new CPU from a retailer?

I've Followed pherans build for My server But changed the CPU, maybe that was a misstake?

Hope you guys/girls understand My por english, it isnt My native language!

Regards
Fredde

You'd need to settle for a number of <simultaneous streams> and design your system accordingly.
Numbers regarding the total user base can be misleading.

AFAIK no CPU compatible with your board would easily handle 10 transcode streams.
Getting a Xeon E3-1230 would probably double your current power.

Used CPUs from eBay can be just fine--that's where I got my pair of E5-2670s. But think about your requirement--do you really need to be able to handle ten simultaneous, transcoded, HD streams? Plex says you want a passmark of 2000 per stream, which means you're looking at about 20,000 total. The least-expensive single CPU that meets that requirement is the Xeon E5-2695v4, which is a $2600 chip. If you went with dual CPUs, it looks like a pair of E5-2690s would also do the job, and be considerably less expensive. A pair of E5-2670s is close (passmark about 18,000), and is dirt cheap on eBay used--I paid $125 for my pair.

Basically, you're on a haswell LGA1150 board.

You're limited to 32GB of ram, and 4 hyper threaded cores.

The best bang for your buck is the E3-1230v4. You can get slightly faster versions for more bucks. But the differences will be trivial.

For more power than that you'll need to upgrade to an LGA2011 board. That's a forklift upgrade.

I'd make do with the upgraded ram and CPU for a few years and then contemplate my next upgrade after that ;)
