The current upgrade path is to uninstall the old version and install the new version. This should not affect your jail settings. It doesn't hurt to backup any Plex configs. If you come across any issues, post them here.
If you uninstall the old version, your jail will be deleted, too. That means, your settings and everything is gone and you have to start from scratch.
Second, the new version 0.9.8.10.215 does not work, see http://forums.freenas.org/threads/pms-wont-start.16314/

I thought this would happen so i havent upgraded. Very strange that the new plugin is not working. This is still an exp port so... Subtitles is the main issue i want to resolve.
I think till there is a plugin update feature in Freenas the best way to keep PMS updated is installing it via ports in a normal jail and update it like this :
Thanks, I tried your solution when you posted that topic and it works however your solutions requires creating an additional dataset to keep the plex database and everytime a new version is released you have to delete the jail download new plugin to a new jail creating the mountpoints and symlinks again so much work is envolved however my method is very clean just enter "portsnap fetch update" followed by "portupgrade plexmediaserver" and you are good to go no additional steps are necessary. No offence intended but I think this is so much easier.
