Upgrade hardware, keep disks

Hi,

I've currently got a 4-disk FreeNAS 11.2-U8 with 4 HDDs in it (2x1Tb and 2x2Tb) that form a ZFS pool.

I want to build a new TrueNAS server on new hardware. Once I've done this, will I be able to connect my existing four drives into the new server and will it 'understand' the pool etc, or would it be better to buy new drives, set them up in the new box, and copy the files across?

Thanks in advance,
Iain

better to buy new drives,

Cute, trite, one-word answers being fun and all, but I did want to make the point here that with such small drives, you may wish to consider the number of hours on the existing drives, and with much larger drives being relatively cheap, it may be prudent to contemplate new disks. If you do, make sure you do NOT buy SMR disks.

Thanks, weighing up the pros and cons of keeping vs renewing I've ordered a couple of Seagate Ironwolf 4Tbs (CMR recording, apparently), which will give me 1Tb more than I currently have, and the option of adding more drives in future when I need them.

Thanks again!
