I have been using FreeNas for about 4 years without a problem. I have 6 Sata HDD for data and 1 IDE drive (4 G) for the boot program. I do not use Raid. I have a 2 core 2.9GHz AMD CPU and 4G of memory.

There seems to be little activity on the old version. Should I be upgrading at this time or wait for version 8.1?
Is there some documentation for upgrading? If not can you suggest how I go about upgrading without loosing any data?
Will I need to change my boot drive to a USB drive?

Thanks for any suggestions

What filesystem do you use?

I'm going to stick with FreeNAS 7.1, probably until 8.2 has been released - purely since 8.x is fairly new, with new developers and still have many quirks to work out
