Hello All,

Unrecoverable volume/drive error on FreeNAS 9.2 with non-production data that can be replaced

Drive da2p2 in a RAIDZ1-1 volume went offline, so the volume was "degraded".
Shutdown FreeNAS, restarted the server and the volume is now "healthy".

In the Alert button I received this:

The volume vol1 (ZFS) status is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected.Determine if the device needs to be replaced, and clear the errors using 'zpool clear' or replace the device with 'zpool replace'.

In Volume Status da2p2 shows "online" with a 26 in the checksum field. All of the other drives also show "online" with a zero in the checksum field.

Some questions:
Is drive da2p2 still part of the array right now?
If zpool clear is run what effect will it have? Does it just reset the checksum values?

If zpool clear is run, how, exactly, is "zpool clear" run for vol1?
If the drive is replaced, what is the exact syntax for running "zpool replace"?
Note: I searched the docs for both of these terms but they were not found.

Thanks in advance

Well, I found http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Volumes#Replacing_a_Failed_Drive
which explains how to replace a drive, but not the zpool clear and zpool replace shell functions.

It does explain how to use the Replace function via the GUI. I removed the drive from the unit and replaced it with another. I selected the new drive and clicked Replace, the new unused drive came up automatically. I then "Detached" the old failed drive.

Resilvering is now running.

The documentation says that you can run zpool status to monitor the status of the resilvering but when I run that command it does not provide any information about the resilvering.

Is there a command to view the resilvering progress?

The "Alert" button does say the volume is resilvering but no progress.

Resilvering completed in less than 45 minutes. There was not a lot of data on the drive.

When I ran just "zpool status" it only displayed the status of vol2. I had to run zpool status vol1 to retrieve the correct data.
