Good afternoon everyone. So I am thinking it is finally time for my to upgrade my system to something that can support future expansion and meet my needs a bit more. The purposes I will be using my server is for:
  • Picture editing via lightroom (image sizes ranging from 16mb to 35mb)
  • 4k Video editing
  • Plex media server
  • File Sharing server
  • Backups
  • Multiple jails
  • Potential MC server
  • At home webserver
  • I am also thinking about running some VM’s
Current Setup:
  • CPU: Intel i5-7600K - Link
  • RAM: 16Gb DDR4-3000 Gskill Ram - Link
  • Motherboard: ASUS Prime z270-A - Link
  • Power Supply: EVGA 750 G3 - Link
  • 2 x 4 Port SATA III PCIe 2.0 x2 Controller Card - Link
  • 1 x Intel X540-T1 10Gbe
  • Mid tower case
  • Drives
  • 4x WD Red 2tb
  • 1x WD Blue SSD
  • 2x Seagate 12tb drives
  • 1x Seagate 4tb
  • 1x 60Gb Boot SSD
  • 1x segate 2tb drive
Would it help if I explained my network setup as well? Just trying to provide as much info as I can.

The reason I am wanting to upgrade is since my profession has changed I want something that is reliable, fast, and lots of space for more drives. I have done lots of research, but I still can’t figure out what exact approach I want to do. What I will do is layout what my current thoughts are and any and all feedback is appreciated.

But while writing this I might go with a supermicro case and hack it up to fit in my server rack. It's 4" to long so I am going to bring that down, replace the fans in it with notcua's, and call it a day. I am pretty good with creating things so shouldn't be a problem at all. I found a company in the states, TechMikeNy. Has anyone ever worked with them? Since the cpu, motherboard, and RAM combined are only a $150-$200 less then less I thought why not get a supermicro case for a couple 100 more. What are peoples thoughts?
