TrusNAS Scale on Qnap TVS-951x can't restart without flood of 'rc rc:0 receive overflow' messages

Hello all, as mentioned I am running TrusNAS Scale on Qnap TVS-951x. I have had it installed for a year or so, and any time there is an update, I get worried because I can't restart without a flood of 'rc rc:0 receive overflow' messages that end up blocking all input or actions on the device to the point that I have to hard power it down every time.

Usually when this happens, the entire screen is filled with those messages (if I can get video to output, usually when it's happening the thing ends up being completely unresponsive). So far there had been only one time I was able to get useful output, which can be seen below, before it was flooded out by more overflow messages.

Has anyone encountered this, or have any possible recommendations?

Thanks,
-MH

It seems to have gotten worse for some reason after the most recent update, to the point that I can't even use it anymore, as this ends up happening every day roughly, becoming unresponsive.

Does the bios allow you to disable the IR receiver?

If not, look for ways to disable/blacklist the IR kernel module.

modprobe -r ite_cir

dmesg
[259963.129253] ite-cir 00:05: disabled

Also, do you happen to have a failing remote or one with a low battery that might be flooding the IR receiver, or the IR sensor is in direct sunlight?

Edit::
I just saw the last line of your message after I hit post, but I do have an IR blaster about 1.5 ft away from it, that is tied to my home automation system, which is rigged up to turn on an oil diffuser.

This thing.

There could be any number of other things on or around my desk I wasn't thinking of that might emit IR, I will have to look. Though, I also could cover the receiver with black duct tape once I find it. I have no intention of using it, especially considering I didn't know it existed prior.

Well, that is interesting. I had seen posts about/similar to that and didn't think much of it, because I didn't think this device had an IR receiver. After you mentioned that though, I went and looked at the product spec online and came across this:

So I then went and ran `modprobe -r ite_cir` as you mentioned.

This was the output.

I suppose I can just give it some time and see if that helps. If so, that will make me both happy and furious at the same time, as I saw those posts so many times thinking it was not my situation, lol.

Definitely appreciate the help, though
Thanks!

According to the manual, the IR sensor is behind the power button. It does not appear the power button is translucent, unless the signal just leaks around the button bezel. This leads me to wonder if the IR receiver is in the translucent vertical panel with all the status/activity lights. Shining a flashlight on the front should uncover where it actually is.

I just checked this morning after having set the ite_cir blacklist last night and restarting, not a single message today. I was about to turn this thing off for good as it had become unusable for the last 6-8 months. Huge thanks for the suggestion. I had already moved my SSD's over to my unraid box as cache drives, but maybe now I can put some more in here and actually use it, lol.
