I have a hypothetical question;
Let's assume my FreeNAS machine crashes and I cannot get a replacment mainboard for instance.
And I decide to put the disks in a new machine (or replace the mainboard, same effect).
Then it would be very probable that the order of the disks would change.
My question: Will FreeNAS be able to reconstruct the raidset even if the order of the disks would change?

Well, thanks for the incredible usefull reply...
I have been looking for some topics, but no definitive answer. I have also looked in the documentation and there I couldnt find any mentioning of changing disk order. So if you could provide some links to the answers...

I'm detecting a bit of sarcasm. :cool:

FYI, it is helpful to let you know that the information you want exists and where it exists. Perhaps not helpful to the degree you want (for me to go look for it instead of you). but it's helpful. I just answered the question within the last week on this very forum. Here you go.

FreeNAS v8.0.3 Guide

I'm pasting the link again because while it's addressed in the 8.0.3 documentation, it doesn't seem to be there in the 8.2 documentation.

Here are 2 more threads on your same topic, both posted within the last week:

hehe, there is nothing wrong with your sarcasm detector.
So, short answer: yes, it should be no problem AS LONG as all disks are intact and you do a ZFS import.
That is very good news.

It would be handy to enter this into the current documentation. :)
