Too slow? Too big?

I have a 2GHZ Core 2 Duo laptop with 2GB of RAM and 2 x 3TB USB hard drives, making it 6TB total, mirrored.

It seems to work fine, but I only get about 40-50Mbits/sec transfer.

Is that simply too much for this laptop with ZFS? Should I consider NAS4Free instead?
