Hi I'm new here, so I beg your pardon if I sound too dumb.


I'm coming from a Qnap 10gbe all SSD sata3 NAS and I plan to build my new server or NAS for this case in TrueNas platform.
Although we have few people attached to the server speed is critical for our work ( mainly 3DCG related stuff for Publicity ).

I was planing to go for some NVME drives and raid them in some PCIe expansion slots for the main project drive but this is obviously very expensive to create a large array so I was thinking if I could have like:

8TB nvme m2 ( fast )
16TB SATA3 SSD (mid)
16TB HDD (slow)

All this I would like to appear as a single unit.
I would like to control manually what projects (folders) go to each Tier.

Is this possible? ( from what I've been reading so far in the forum looks like YES )
does this generate other problems?
does this have any impact on overall performance?
What happens if the project in the nvme storage... is larger thanthe 8TB? would it start using the mid tier units automatically?
