My home NAS was overdue for an upgrade and I wanted to make the jump to server grade hardware, this forum has been invaluable to my research and planning. Just wanted to say thank you. Standing this up went EXTREMELY smooth, again thanks.

  • ASRock C2750D4I
  • 16GB - Crucial 2 x 8GB ECC Unbuff DDR3 (CT2KIT102472BD160B)
  • 8GB Innodisk SATADOM-MV 3ME (OS)
  • 6 x 500GB WD Blue - Raidz2 (Pool-1 Storage)
  • 2 x 120GB Intel 530 SSD - Mirrored Vdevs (Pool-2 Jails)
  • Fractal Design Node 304
  • CORSAIR CS450M 450W - 80 PLUS Gold

The biggest “problem” I encountered was getting the java console to play nice.

Notes
  • IPMI - no issues
  • BMC - updated -> 00.23.00
  • BIOS - updated -> 2.80
  • Marvell 9230 - flashed to disable HW Raid function
  • Pool-1 (Storage): This is the import from old NAS I will be up-sizing the disks one at a time over the next few months to spread out the cost.
  • Node 304 - You can attach a SSD to each side of the outer HDD brackets for 8 total drives. You lose the ability to use the small channel in the frame for wire management.
  • Node 304 - I also removed the front panel I/O board and cables as they won't be used. This allowed me to keep most of the slack from the aux cables inside the front of the case as well as hide the CPU power cable I’m not using.
  • I’ll try to get some pictures over in the off-topic thread.

How much was the DOM? The only ones available around here cost as much as a basic SanDisk SSD.

It was $33 shipped from Memory Depot. It's a straight "something I wanted to play with" vs. "something I needed for the build".

Also the turnaround time ordering from the above site isn't the best. They don't tell you this when you order but these are a "specialty item" which means they don't keep stock in North America. It's a boat ride from Asia then testing locally, then shipping domestically (2-4 weeks)

Yeah, Cyberjock reported a similar experience buying his (dunno where he got it, though).

That's where I got mine. Took something like 32 days from the day I paid for the item to get to my doorstep. Even then it should have taken a week+ longer but I was upset at the 21 day mark and called to find out what was going on. Their website said 2-3 weeks delivery and at 21 days it hadn't even indicated as "shipped". They upgraded me to 2-day shipping for free from ground shipping.

Happy with the fact they tried to right their wrong, but unhappy that they don't make this little fact public at all. If you were doing this for a business application you might have a timetable to meet and be very disappointed when they don't show up for more than a month.

Please forgive me for commenting on a thread that is almost a year old... But I actually just spoke a gentleman named Randy from Innodisk - North America office (California to be precise) as I was having horrible time finding a reseller in Canada... To the point, I was informed that the SERVERDOM's are actually custom made for each and every order, hence the reason why they take so long... I'm still a little fuzzy as to why they don't simply manufacture enough parts for the various models they list on their website, but the only thing I can think of is manufacturing cost... *shrug*

Sadly on the part of Innodisk as well, I'm in Ontario Canada and the only company Innodisk was able to provide me is all the way on the far coast in British Columbia... And furthermore, when I called the company suggested by Innodisk themselves, the specific person Randy gave me to contact (and knew Randy) hadn't even heard of their SERVERDOM's, she had only heard of their SATADOM's...

Me thinks me will be going with the SuperDOM's directly from SuperMicro as I'm trying to get a hold of one of their mobo's anyway...
