Just wanting to test this drive the failed in my NAS but when I hook it to a windows box it wont let me Initialize the drive to format it or run tests on it. Drive spins up fine, reason for my testing is I think the port on my NAS mobo is actually causing the issue. So how can i get this drive back to NTFS or FAT from ZFS so I can test it?

Hm. In your case, my conclusion would be that the drive has failed and it must be replaced. Spinning up doesn't mean the drive is good or readable by any system.

You can confirm this using vendor utilities such as SEATOOLS for Seagate drives.

Yea Seatools picks it up but cant run any scans on it because it wont initialize. hmmm maybe it is dead.... My NAS failed the new drive I replaced it with on the same port so im looking into my mobo causing the issues. So even being in a NAS it should initialize on a windows box right?

Yes, if the disk is good, a PC should be about to format it, even if the disk came from a NAS and has a file system that the PC doesn't recognize on it. As for the other drive and the potential motherboard issue, you could take the second drive that failed and see how it Seatools sees it. Maybe you just have bad luck.
