Hello all,

I'm facing the following task and I tend to solve it with two FreeNAS boxes and or with a plugin;

One company with two sites and they are connected through a bad/low bandwidth via site2site vpn which works but the access from the remote site via vpn to the FreeNAS via SMB is obvious slow so I need to find a smart solution to deal with it.

My first idea was to put a second FreeNAS at the remote site offering a local SMB access to solve the low bandwidth and to keep the data up2date with replication BUT how to deal with data inconsistencies?
I think this is not right way, isn't it?

The second idea is to solve it using btsync or syncthing as a plugin/jail at the main FreeNAS?

What do you think?

You need to use rsync for two-way synchronization.

ZFS replication is one-way

Yah- but how to deal with file locking ?
You don't, you have independent copies that then get synced. If there are conflicts, that would be a problem.

I'm not aware of any good solution for this, unfortunately.

I think rsync is not the right way because people are working at the same time on the same data so even if I rsync eg. every second it generates issues with locking and with data inconsistence.

I will test it with syncthing...
