I'm looking at this 24 bay supermicro server. It's got SAS2, a ton of memory (72GB), 2 processors with a total of 12 cores, and an X8DTN+ motherboard. The raid card will need replaced, but how does this look for a freenas box?
I'm looking to probably build/buy 2 freenas boxes, one for bulk storage, i.e. backups and media server, and a second for VM's and iSCSI. There are quite a few similar Supermicro servers with X8 motherboards, most are not SAS2 unfortunately. Does anything about this or the other ones stand out as a problem for a freenas box?
Thanks,
Jon
