I'm setting up a FreeNAS server on a box that I originally intended for Open Solaris. Initial setup went OK, but I was getting errors on a couple of the 1.5TB drives, so I decided to upgrade four of them to 3TB for one of my volumes. I purchased an M015 card so I could add the new drives and replace the old drives, as I'm out of Sata ports on the MB.

But I realized that two of the new drives are only being seen as 2.2TB. After a little thought, I realized that this must be a BIOS issue. I updated the MB BIOS, but the drives on the SAS controller don't seem to be visible in the BIOS setup screen. I know there is a separate ROM for the LSI1068 chip, but I have no idea if this can be updated or how to view the 8 ports on the SAS controller?

AFAIK, the LSI1068 chip can only recognize up to 2.2TB. Are you sure that you purchased an IBM M1015? IBM M1015 does not utilize the LSI1068 (and also does not have a 2.2TB restriction).

Yep the M1015 sees the 3TB drives OK, it's the two on the built-in Sata controller that have the issue.

I'll have to move the smaller drives to the 1068. Is FreeNAS smart enough to find the drives on a different controller?

If the controller is properly supported, FreeNAS doesn't give a damn where drives are or where they're going.
