Hello!

Due to parts availability issues, I am thinking I may have to hold off on building my NAS so then my question is, if I was to acquire some drives and connect them via software raid1 on my linux system, once I can get the hardware I need to build my nas, would that data be at any risk if I move those drives over?

Yes. You would need to reformat the drives with ZFS. That is the only storage option TrueNAS supports. So you need to store the data somewhere else for a while and copy it over.

If that "software RAID1" happens to be OpenZFS 2.0, then maybe no issue to transfer/import the pool into TrueNAS.
