I'm migrating from a buffalo NAS with a 1TB drive. I've purchased a 2TB drive and would like to migrate the data with the end goal of having a 2-disk ZFS mirror with 2x 1TB volumes (1 TB of the 2TB drive unused -- will eventually grow to 2TB when the 1TB drive is replaced).

Right now, the 1TB drive has a XFS partition with all my data. Ideally, I'd like to create a ZFS "mirror" with a single disk (1TB volume of the 2TB drive, copy the contents over, reformat the 1TB drive and add it in as a "replacement" drive and repair the mirror.

This doesn't seem to be possible from the GUI. Is there any way to do this based on the 8.2 beta?

No, either way you'll need CLI interaction, which is roughly:

zpool attach poolname disk1 disk2
