It has been mentioned that SLC (single layer cell) Solid State Drives (SSD) are becoming scarce. These were and possibly still may be recommended for logging or cache device for your ZFS pool. The scarcity in my own investigations has proven true but I did find one Intel SLC SSD @Amazon which can be purchased, of course it is considerably more expensive than an ordinary SSD. According to other statements about hard drives and the color codes used, the same applies, a Red Western Digital SSD @Amazon may be the better choice.

What I read about SLC versus ordinary SSD written in 2015: It has to do with the declining rate of SSD pricing combined with the rapid product cycle for drive technology. “By the time the NAND dies, the replacement cost is so low that it doesn’t even matter,” explains Jason Chen, product manager for SSD storage at Newegg.

Description of Western Digital drive colors which mentions an even more insanely priced GOLD model which is likely older news/prices as buying direct is not too bad for the gold model from Western Digital: internal storage.
