hi

i have build a machine with FreeNAS 8.3.1

i'm having some trouble with it :

1) the version is : FreeNAS-8.3.1-RELEASE-p2-x64 (r12686+b770da6_dirty)
why DIRTY ?! is there a way to wash it ? :D

2) freenas not able to send email, when trying email test i get error message : mail not sent, time out
(i did all the configuration stuff)

3) in the log i get :
avahi-daemon[2254]: WARNING: No NSS support for mDNS detected, consider installing nss-mdns!
what is that ?

4) smartd[2082]: Device: /dev/ada2, Failed SMART usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel.
what is that ?

5) INADYN[2283]: W: DYNDNS: Error 'RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED' (0x13) when talking to IP server
INADYN[2283]: W:'RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED' (0x13) updating the IPs. (it 0)

sounds like dyndns not working, why ? also i'm not able to turn off dyndns service, it says that it cannot turn it off, why ?

thank you for helping

It sounds like your network is not configured properly. Do you have a gateway or name server configured on your FreeNas box?

add google's name servers 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

Also you may want to try an ping outside of your network to confirm that you do have internet access.

What SMTP Server are you using?
Do you know if it requires authentication?
Have you tried using SSL vs TLS?
Have you tried using port 587 vs 25 ?

i tried different smtp config
- smtp of my internet provider, its an open smtp on port 25, no authetifcation required : that's not working
- smtp of an online mail service, with authentification on port 465/587 : that's not working too
weard

I have a dirty release just like yours! ;) and it works with gmail.

From Email:youremail@gmail.com
SMTP: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587
Auth: Y
TLS
user: youremail@gmail.com

I had that problem when the DNS and gateway wasn't configured properly, sorry but have you tried rebooting the system? (just incase!)

lol ok that realy sounds weard dirty release !! :)

yes i have rebooted system many times, i'm just giving up now
everything working well on my network, i have already 2 commercial NAS resolving well the DNS and the gateway, updating dyndns and sending mails.
i wanted to try freenas, but it seems such an elementary config is turning into a headhake.

i will wait for new realease, maybe it would fix the problem, who knows...

thanks guys for trying helping me
