Hi all
I need to start with the freenas computer specs it seems.

Processor: Intel i5-3450
Motherboard: Gigabyte z77-D3h-MVP
Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600
Drives: ST4000DM004 , WDC WD40EZRZ, 2 x WDC WD40EFRX

FreeNAS-11.3-U1

There are 4 x 4TB drives setup as a a 12TB RAIDZ.
There are 4 accounts with samba shares.
There are 4 different data sets each with permissions for a user.
My Freenas machine has a static IP and and have no apparent network issues.
I used this video as a guide to set them up and it apparently went fine.

I have started copy files over to the machine and have noticed a problem.
I use both windows & linux as gaming & general use machines and both will need to access the NAS.
I have used samba shares on ubuntu server previously and have had no issues.

I typically use a program called freefilesync to do backups on my linux & windows machine. I have had no issues until now.
I used it to do a copy all to the NAS. I did a compare both filesystems again to make sure but it wanted to copy all the files again.

Apparently the issue is a file timestamp.
If I copy a file to the NAS the timestamp is wrong, specifically the 'last modified' as shown in the ubuntu file explorer.
On the NAS it apparently becomes the time it was copied onto the machine.
I need them to be the same.

I setup a basic samba share on an old linux laptop (ubuntu 1804) and could access it with no issues.
When I copied a small file across the 'date modified' info was consistent as expected.

I am very new to FreeNAS. My knowledge of itis limited.
It is very important the 'date modified' issue has a fix as my file backups & syncronisation to & from the NAS is dependent on it.

Is it some sort of permissions issue?
Where exactly do I make modifications through the GUI?

Thanks in advance.

There is another long thread about this already... did you see it?

I did when I worked out what it was. I have been using freenas for less than a week and I understand very little from that thread in terms of the in depth technical info.
I reinstalled an older version for now until it is fixed in the latest version to update to.
