Smart Test

Hello guys,

Just a quick one about smart tests, I saw on the guide to schule on the tasks tab some smart short tests all days and long ones once a week if I remember correctly.
So the question is the following:
Wasn't freenas by default monitoring the drives without me to schule smart tasks, and what is this option then about:

The SMART tests that you schedule in the task section are different than the checks that smartd (the config you have open) does. smartd checks the disks for temperature and for other errors and is used to raise alerts to the system which will appear as the green/yellow/red light in the top right of the web UI. You should have both SMART tests and the smartd checks enabled (unless you have a good reason not to).
