SMART test on failing drive clears errors?

So heres a curious one: I have a drive that last night was marked as unhealthy. I already knew it was failing and had ordered a new one yesterday (so don't panic. It's in the post) but to be sure I ran a long smart test on it overnight. the drive had 360 unreadable (pending sectors) and had developed 96 write errors during the course of the day. I wake up this morning and I check the results. The test was aborted but the drive is now marked as ok. Did the smart test just move the data in the bad sectors to a good spot? were the errors a false negative? what happened? anyone got any ideas?

here's the smartctl data

looking at the data, i'm assuming coz it's an smr drive, the errors were because of the write around delay (or what ever that term is) and the smart test gave it a kick, which caused the drive to sort itself out

assuming coz it's an smr drive,
The new one is a CMR drive? You should consider replacing all your SMR drives with CMR drives.
