SOLVED SMART errors, can i recover my data?

I am getting network errors when transferring data to my freenas system. googling around I see this thread:

It looks like I'm in a very similar situation, I didn't have SMART tests running--I had it enabled and I thought that was enough.

I don't know how to decipher the smart data, but it looks like all my drives are failing? Can someone confirm? Possibly the only reason I might be able to get my data is due to the ECC memory?

As @hugovsky said, all your drives are running on the warm side, and some are over 40 C, which we don't like to see. Try to improve airflow or move the server to a cooler environment.

I'm curious as to what makes you think that all your drives are failing. None of them are showing any current errors or problem sectors, and only one of them is showing any such history (and that's only one reallocated sector). In short, nothing about the SMART data except for the drive temps and the fact that you aren't running regular SMART tests is cause for concern.

I agree with what has already been said.

Just to be sure you should run a long SMART test manually before re-doing the smartctl -a ;)

danb35, thank you for this information and your reply. I do not know how to decipher the SMART log results. Before I ask anymore stupid questions, is there a manual for this or previous posts where this is described?

I saw the really large numbers in the right-most column and thought that was the number of errors my drives were seeing.

The system is not in a data center, but sits next to a desk near my other computer where the ambient temperature is ~30C. I will use a IR temperature gun to get an idea of the disk case temperature.

I don't think there is a cohesive guide on SMART around here, but I might be wrong.

You should cool down that drives. They're running too hot. Try to keep them between 30-40º. To me, it seems that only ada3 should be closely monitored. It already has 1 recovered sector. Schedule everyday short tests and every 1-2weeks long tests to all drives. Other drives seem fine. What version of freenas are you using?

I did a quick check with my IR gun, the drives are ~40C which is too warm. I'm going to blow out the case and ensure the fans all working properly.

I'm trying to figure out my "Network Error 0x8007003B" issue. If I can't I might just buy 3-4 4TB drives and start over, then copy my data to that drive. I think I have <4TB of data on the volume so I could move it and expand.
