I am looking to build a new FreeNAS machine for backups for 1-2 people and a plex jail with 1 stream. Nothing too fancy. Here is the build I was thinking of, it is very similar to a build I found in someone's signature, but I cannnot find their username atm. My budget is around $1200, but would like to aim for $1000. I'm hoping to find some good black friday deals.
Motherboard: SuperMicro X11SSM-F
CPU: Intel Core i3-6300
RAM: 1x 16 GB Crucial DDR4-2133 ECC UDIMM
Boot: 120 GB SSD
Hard drives: 6x WD Red 3TB
PSU: Seasonic G-450
Case: Fractal Define R4
Questions:
1. For such light usage, would a Pentium G4500 be enough to cover my needs?
2. I've seen a few pre-built Lenovo ThinkServers suggested in various threads that would end up being a few $100 less than building my own with similar specs. Is there any major reason people dont do this for FreeNAS builds? And what is the most popular ThinkServer model?
Thank you for your help! Much appreciated
