Hi All, I know its been the bain for people across the forum but I really having some issue with SFTP to a couple of FREENAS Machines.
1. is a DELL Optiplex 790 with INTEL onboard NIC
2. is a DELL R210ii PowerEdge Server using single NIC port on the Server at this time

Both really only seem to get around 300KiB/s transfer speeds using FileZilla - although sometimes from a macbook it initially starts around 5Mb/s and gradually tails off to 300k and on really large files then will start picking up again to around 1.1Mb/s and the fluctulates
I'm really struggling to find out whats going on.

So I have a Netgear NightHawk router which is attached via power line adapters (TPLINK 500AV) to the servers each with own PowerLine adapater - and all plugged into wall sockets.

Any help greatly appreciated
Many thanks

The first step is to figure out if it's a networking issue. Try measuring the bandwidth using iperf.

Wow well I've learnt something - network speeds dramatically accelerated once removed a couple of PowerLine Network adapters I really never thought they would cause so much issue! Having removed a few of these speeds have increased to much more acceptable levels. Now working on how I can remove more of them. As servers are upstairs and router downstairs I really dont fancy routing a ethernet cable through the house tbh. But guess might be the best option

Yes. That is normal for powerline. Powerline is more like Wifi and not like an Ethernet cable. It's half-duplex, very sensitive to electrical interference and you'll never come close to the promised bandwidth.
