I'm current running a X10SL7F MB with a M1015 controller and wouldn't mind using one of the SFP ports on my HPE 1920S switch
can anyone recommend some tried and tested hardware I should be looking for to make this work.

Thanks

What version of FreeNAS are you running, and what is the rest of the hardware? It is particularly impossible to say without knowing the kind of 10G NIC you have. That said, my preference is short range fiber (SX). That way you can put a supported SFP+ on each side, and fiber patch cables are easy to run through cable management, etc. If it is short range, you can use a Twinax/DAC cable, but that can sometimes be challenging to find one that both sides like.

I'm running 11.2 and I don't have any 10G card yet thats why I posted here to see what the experts recommend.

MB is a Supermicro X10SL7-F with a M1015 taking up a PCIe slot, Switch is a HPE 1920S and the cable length would need to be around 5 metres

Thanks

Thanks, Chelsio it is. I'll start having a look for a pair of supported SFP+ modules. Seeing this cable needs to be around 5 metres in length I'm guessing short range fiber (SX) would be my best bet?
That should certainly work. It does depend on how you want to run the cable. The twinax/DAC cables tend to be kind of stiff and clunky. They were difficult to run through the cable management arms in my rack which why I switched to fiber.
