Hi all, hope this is the right location for asking the correct setting/parameters for DYNU.com

Most of the settings are easy to fill out but ive also seem people stating you need to put in addititonal parameters like this!

--dyndns_system custom@http_svr_basic_auth
--dyndns_server_name api.dynu.com
--dyndns_server_url nic/update?hostname=DNSNAME.dynu.com&myip=

does anyone use DYNU and whats your setting please.

I'm afraid I don't have any help for you, but it seems nobody else here is using dynu.com, or at least they aren't talking about it. I tried to pull up their page to see if there might be some pointers, but it failed to load. Is something stopping you from using a different dynamic DNS service?

thanks for replying not really, ive used it in the past on my nas4free without issues so thought as im moving on to freenas it should be ok. Ive also noticed the website;s down, could get it this morning but not now, the website states down for scheduled maintenance. Obviously free is nicer but is there prefered DNS providers to consider?

im getting this, assuming it because the sites down....

Dec 8 14:01:00 LTbowers INADYN[9966]: Tue Dec 8 14:01:00 2015: E:INADYN: Init error: RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED updating alias ltbowers.dynu.com

I don't have any recent experience with dynamic DNS (I have a static IP), but I'd expect providers in the drop-down to be easier to work with. This thread has some information about setting things up for no-ip.com, which may be helpful.

I'm also of the opinion (which may be a minority opinion) that dynamic DNS is better handled by the device that has the dynamic IP, i.e., your router. It just avoids an extra layer of complexity in your FreeNAS server needing to figure out when its external IP address (which it doesn't have any other reason to use) has changed, and what the new address is. Many consumer routers support dynamic DNS out-of-the-box.

true, i think my new router can do DNS. ill have to check. thanks. Any good with one of my other issues, setting transmission temp download and completed download locations? mine do not seem to keep its setting either, not played with it too much.

I'm just running across this and I think it's as simple as you forgot the "/" in front of nic/update... for your server URL.
