I had a nasty turn with freenas 8.0.0 where it just kept rebooting, i rebuilt using 8.0.2 and all was well until one evening i was trying to get transmisison installed and i kept getting Segmentation Fault with every command in putty.
Disturbed, i rebooted everything and then found that i could not connect to the freenas via netbios name, only via ip, which was an arse.
turns out that it's a thermal issue.
The USB drive was just a usual transcend 4gb in a plastic case, but it was sat on the hard drive inside a fanless computer.
once i popped the lid off, reseated the drive away from the hd all is well.
just posting this so that others might try cooling before rebuilding...
