Hi Forum,

I'm been receiving security output for quite some and it looks fairly normal until last night. I'm not sure exactly what it means and I'm been searching around for a guide or breakdown so I can learn and decode myself. So now I'm turning to your guys...anyone else seen this output from their log? Is there a direction you can point me to, I'm more than happy to read and learn on myself?

Here is the output from last night's log:

Nas.freenas.local kernel log messages:

> arp: d0:22:be:0c:4d:4e attempts to modify permanent entry for 192.168.1.4 on em0 > arp: d0:22:be:0c:4d:4e is using my IP address 192.168.1.4 on epair0b!

Thanks for your help in advance....

It looks like you have an IP address conflict. If your FreeNAS is set to a static IP, make sure it is not within the range that your DHCP server (router?) is handing out.

...and if it isn't an IP address conflict, do you have any Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, etc.) on your network? I'm not sure exactly why, but they seem to have a habit of trying to take over an IP address. In any event, this is not a critical problem.

I'm not sure exactly why,
Devices that shutdown delegate their AirPlay stuff to other iDevices that do not shutdown so that they can accept requests on their behalf and wake up the sleeping devices when needed and transfer it all back.

WOW...fantastic responses. I do have a static IP for Freenas and it's in a reserved range on the router. I do also have two Apple devices on my network, both my son's. Is this a location or link that I can learn more about this log they way you guys know it in order to answer my question? I appreciate the forum tremendously, but don't want it to be a crutch for me as I gain experience...hopefully I expressed that correctly.
