Hello.

I installed FreeNAS on my small ITX build.
I have 3x 3TB WD HDDs and a 500GB and a 256GB SSD installed.

However, if i try to create a Storage Pool, FreeNAS doesn't list de SSDs in the Cache VDev.

What do I have to do, to get this to work?

Thanks a lot.

Move ada0 and ada4 back to the left. Then mark one of them in the left panel and click "add cache", mark the remaining one, click "add log" - if that is your intention. Disks that are available are in the left panel. By moving them into the right one you designate them to the data vdev.

ooh, OK now i feel dumb.

Thank you Patrick.

Looks like it doesn't work with two different sized ssds. Well, the 500GB has to do then...

There's not really a need to have redundant cache in a home setup. If your use case benefits from L2ARC at all ... you did read all the relevant docs, did you? ;)

A better use for those SSDs could be another pool where you put the hard disk images of VMs. Not redundant with your hardware unless you accept that the larger of your SSDs will only use the size of the smaller one. You can mitigate the risk of losing the VM data by regularly replicating to your large redundant HDD based pool ...
