SAS controller with external SF-8088

I have searched, but I don't see what I am looking for. I am new to building servers. I have a server chassis and a drive encloser (with expander). The two are connected (or will be) via SF-8088 cable. I am looking for a recommendation on a controller card that has an external SF-8088 port, and will work with FreeNAS on my supermicro motherboard. I have not purchased the motherboard or a controller card yet. I have found lots of RAID cards out there, but as everyone knows, I don't want any hardware RAID card affecting my OS. The exact products I have are listed below. Thank you in advance for any help in pointing me in the right direction.

Norco chassis used (Supermicro does not make short depth units)

RPC-430 4U Rackmount Chassis
DS-24E 24-Bay Direct Attached Storage Sub-System
C-SFF-8088 External Mini SAS Cable (SFF-8088 to SFF-8088)

Just get an M1015 and one of those adapters that take up one expansion slot and provide one (or more) internal-external adapter(s).
