Hi everyone,

it took some time to finally pull the trigger on my FreeNAS build.

The FreeNAS server is mainly for internal file sharing and should serve as a backup place for computers.
Transcoding is not required, but some jails (nextcloud, ...) will be set up.
Most data volume will be photos in RAW format alongside self-shot videos.

I read the resources on FreeNAS here in the forum and came up with the following:

Mainboard: SuperMicro X11 SSM-F
CPU: Pentium Gold G4560 2x3.5 GHz + HT
Heatsink: Scythe Kotetsu Mark II
RAM: 1x Samsung DIMM 16GB, DDR4-2400, CL17-17-17, ECC (M391A2K43BB1-CRC)
SSD (Boot): SanDisk Z400s 64GB, SATA (2D-NAND MLC)
SSD (Jails): SanDisk Z400s 128GB, SATA (2D-NAND MLC)
HDDs: 6x WD RED 4 TB in RaidZ2
PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 550W
Case: Fractal Design Define R5

Remarks:
The box has to be whisper quiet (will stand in our flat), therefore the heatsink (cheap, yet solid and quiet).
I read that the SuperMicro board does not like that low fan speeds (300 rpm) and needs to be adjusted via IPMI command line. Hopefully, this works via Windows, if not I'll set up Linux in a virtual machine.
Only 1x 16 GB RAM for later upgrade to dual channel.

What do you think?
Did I forget something or can I go on and buy?

How do you like your Seasonic Focus Plus Power Supply? I'm undecided between the 550 W and the 650 W version.

Very nice piece of hardware. High quality, very silent (even in silent/cooling mode, with the fan always spinnig) and more compact than the beQuiet StraightPower 10 400W it replaced and that is sitting now as a spare in my basement.

I chose the 650W model because it provides 8 SATA power connectors instead of 6 on the 550W model. The Gold model wasn't available cheaper than the Platinum at the time I bought mine.
