I just upgraded my FreeNAS box to FreeNAS-11.0-U4 (54848d13b) and now I cannot start SMB. When I try in the GUI, it looks like it's starting but doesn't actually get anywhere.

Trying from the CLI generates the following error:
Code:
root@store05:~ # service samba_server start
Performing sanity check on Samba configuration: FAILED

ok, so running a testparm and I get:
Code:
root@store05:~ # testparm
Load smb config files from /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf
Processing section "[veeam]"
Loaded services file OK.
ERROR: The idmap range for the domain * (tdb) overlaps with the range of HOME (rid)!

Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER

Press enter to see a dump of your service definitions

Any pointers on what I need to fix? This was all working before the upgrade so I wonder if this upgrade is a bit more strict or something.

It looks like your idmap ranges are overlapping. You should edit them so that they don't do that. One set is configured under services -> SMB and covers your BUILTIN users / groups / other crap. The other is under Directory Services -> Active Directory (next to the "idmap dropdown), and controls the range set for your AD users and groups.

Pretty much. They shouldn't overlap, and I wouldn't have any of them go lower than 3000. You should also leave yourself enough room for all the users in your AD environment.
