I have 3 freenas servers on my network all with intel gb nics.

Main server is a ml10v2, xeon cpu 32gb ecc ram, freenas 11

I manually run 2 rsync tasks to backup the pool to 2 other machines.

These 2 machines are a N54L 16gb ecc and a N40L 16gb ecc, both running Freenas 9 latest update.

I run the rsync scripts from a ssh shell.
Speed is very slow 3-4MB/s where it used to be 10 times that.

Copying / Moving by a Windows client to and from any of these machines is much faster depending on which machine and number of vdevs on each machine. 50-90MB/s.

I have recently added a Pfsense firewall running on a N36L 16gg ecc with dual intel gb nics to the network.

What is causing this slowdown.

You're right, it's hard to get anything done at 3 millibits per second.

Silliness aside, please use units correctly so that people understand the numbers you're talking about.

Common sense would tell me to start there. You spelled it out yourself. Can you remove the newly installed pfsense firewall and see if speeds during rsync return to normal?

Chasing down these sort of problems are all about eliminating variables. Can you connect two of the machines directly to each other and then see what speeds you get?
