Getting information on Freenas is a real headache. Understanding the information you get is another story as well.

Somehow I screwed up all my permissions and now cannot start the Plex plugin. I keep getting some error about authentication.

Anyways I've spent all morning trying to determine whether or not I can simply reinstall Freenas on my USB drive and somehow add the drive with the data back without losing data.

I have a single 2TB drive I want to add back to the Freenas install.

That is the exact reason why the operating system is stored on a separate media than the storage, so that you can reinstall without affecting your data. However, reinstalling won't help you fix a mucked up plugin/jail as that info is stored on the storage disk.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, assuming you were playing with the permissions in the jail. If you were playing with the permissions on the storage you added (using Add Storage for the plugin/jail), you could try a factory restore which will also reboot the system and get rid of ALL of your configurations.

Thanks for your response but I already reinstalled the OS and now I'm trying to figure out how to get my volume to appear back under storage.

Do I try to import the disk or the volume?

I tried importing a volume . Selected No when asked if the volume was encrypted. Then hit ok. At step 2 there is no volume to select.

I reboot the box and was able to successfully import the volume. Thank God! Now I have to reinstall Plex and set everything back up. Hope I don't still end up with permission problems. For the life of me I cannot understand permissions in Freenas yet.

You definitely don't need to reinstall to fix permissions.

Tell me about it. Since I'm back to the same problems I had before the reinstall.

Did you try and reinstalling the plugin? You may have to delete the jail and start over. How did you change the permissions for the Plex in the first place?
