Hi everyone,
I'd like to replace my QNAP TS-253Be by a custom NAS.
Main routine: Plex server (average movie is 60Gb), media storage (photos, music, docs), backups and probably light VM with a DB (just a sandbox, not a prod instance). There are only 2 users.
I'm thinking about current setup:
Thank you in advance.
- Case: Fractal Design Node 304
- Motherboard: Mini-ITX Supermicro X11SCL-iF
- CPU: Intel i3-9100F
- RAM:16Gb UDIMM x2
- Power Supply: EVGA 500 W1
- Storage: Couple of WD RED drives (2x10Tb, 1x8Tb - from my current NAS and External drive)
- (Optional) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i
- (Optional) HBA Card: LSI SAS 9207-8i
- May I use nonECC memory for Supermicro X11SCL-iF + i3-9100F? I've heard that it's possible to use nonECC memory with i3, and it's impossible with Xeon, is it true? I just don't want to spend more money on memory than CPU+Motherboard cost.
- I have an extra Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD and I planned to use it as OS drive, is it ok?
- Market provides a lot of pretty cheap 128Gb NVMe, should I buy one?
- Will be this CPU enough for me? (Only one 4K transcoding is possible in my cases)
- Should I expect that I can lose some functionality in comparison with QNAP?
- Did I miss something?
Thank you in advance.
