RECOVERY_START when trying to upgrade via usb

I'm trying to install an update for TrueNas to the most recent version, but I'm getting the above image. What is going wrong?

The error does not appear to be related to USB, just a NVMe drive.

What is your hardware configuration?
(What does your NVMe do? Boot pool?)

Turns out one of my boot drives is dying, but it's able to still start and recover.
