Recommendation for saving CLI configurations between upgrades?

Greetings,
I made several changes to my .cshrc file, knowing they could be blown away at the next update.
Sure enough the most recent update blew it away.

How do you manage keeping such configuration changes between updates? I did save the config db before the update, but I'm not sure if that actually contains the .cshrc and I'm hesitant to re-load the config between different OS versions...

Could setup a script to just make a copy of the file onto the pool. The one problem I can see is if something needs to change in the file and you put it back in place after an upgrade to make the changes. You have now overwritten those changes and broken something.

Probably better to just save a file with only the modifications you need and then put them back after each upgrade.
